A beautiful vintage watercolor of a bicycle race by noted Provincetown, Massachusetts artist William L'Engle. The watercolor is in excellent condition aside from being taped to the back of the matt. The watercolor is signed "L'Engle" in pencil, lower right, and is dated "35" (1935).

William L'Engle and his artist wife Lucy Stelle Brown L'Engle were both well known participants of the Provincetown intellectual and social milieu and especially close to modernist artists, Karl Knaths, Blanche Lazell and William and Margueritte Zorach.

William L'Engle graduated from Yale, 1906 and studied art in Paris at the prestigious Ecole des Beaux-Arts and Academie Julian, 1909-1914. While in Europe he met and married Lucy Brown, settled in New York1916 and shortly after became an important fixture of the Provincetown art scene.

This wonderful watercolor beautifully portrays all the excitement and related activities relevant to bicycle racing of the time.
