A mounted, large format, albumen print, of Yosemite Valley by important early California photographer, George Fiske. The photograph is mounted on board and is in excellent condition aside from some overall toning, leaving a 3/8" bar of slightly lighter tone across the top, the result of a previous mat. The photograph probably dates from the 1880's.
George Fiske became photographer in residence of Yosemite Valley in 1879. Although, smaller format photos by Fiske are quite numerous; the difficulty of making photos from such large negatives that give this superb detail are relatively rare.
