Description

Price $475 Size: 4" high, 5 1/4" high including marble base

A fine bronze golfer, Secessionist sculpture by the early modernist Vienna design firm, Hagenauer, probably dating from the 1920's.

The sculpture is signed with stamped marks underneath the bronze plate beneath the golfers feet, with the famous wHw mark and further marked "Made in Austria". Although the sculpture is stamped "Germany" on the plate next to the golfers left foot, I guarantee that the bronze is signed as stated, however to photograph the marks I would have to again remove the sculpture from the marble base which I'm reluctant to do for fear that the sculpture will become loose from the base.

The Werkstatten Hagenauer was established in 1898 by Carl Hagenauer with his son Karl joining the firm in1919. Karl was greatly influenced by Joseph Hoffman, a founding member of the legendary Viennese Secessionist design group, Wiener Werkstatte, whose influence is clearly displayed in this sculpture.
