"Reports of Explorations And Surveys to Ascertain The Most Practicable And Economical Route For A Railroad from the Mississippi River To The Pacific Ocean", 1853-4, Volume IV., Washington, 1856, 288 pages, tight binding but somewhat loose front cover, faded spine, shelf rubbing and chipping to the covers, two names inscribed in the front cover. measures 11 1/2" X 9 1/2".
This volume covers the botany encountered on the route of the explorations for a transcontinental railroad. The volume is illustrated with numerous plates and one fold-out chart showing the various plant life at various altitudes along the route. There is light foxing and toning that varies from light to moderate to the plates. I believe, this is a first edition of the volume.
As I'm sure any dealer or collector can tell by my descriptions; I am not an expert in antiquarian books. Nevertheless, I have tried to describe the books accurately.
